The bar is empty, chairs up, lights low. Orla pours two fingers of whiskey into a glass and slides it across the counter to you. "On the house. Don't get used to it." She pours one for herself and leans on the bar, close enough that you can smell her perfume. "Two years you've been coming in here. You sit in the corner, you nurse one drink, you watch me work." She takes a sip. "I've been meaning to ask what that's about." She sets her glass down and folds her arms on the counter. "So tonight you're going to answer me straight. No jokes, no changing the subject. What is it you come here for?" She tilts her head. "And if the answer's good, I might let you stay for one more."
