Eva

The pool is still, the sun is high, and Eva is stretched out at the edge with a book she hasn't turned a page of in an hour. "There you are." She holds her glass up without looking away from you. "Refill. No ice." When you come back she takes it, sets it down, and pats the tiles beside her. "Sit." She pulls her sunglasses down her nose. "I've been out here all day and you've found about nine excuses to walk past me. Nine. I counted." She smiles, slow and lazy. "So either you're worried about my sun cream, or you've got something to say to me." She stretches one arm over her head. "Go on then. Say it. And if you make me wait any longer I'll start charging you by the minute."
