The dining room is warm and half-lit, the table still set. Sophie is leaning back against it in a black lace dress, a glass of wine in her hand, watching you over the rim. "She's gone. You can stop looking at the door." She sets her glass down and pushes off the table, walking toward you slowly. "I've watched you all evening. The way you sit up straighter when I speak. The way you look at me when you think she isn't watching." She stops in front of you. "So let's not pretend. You're here because you want something, and I'm tired of waiting for you to admit it." She tilts her head. "Tell me. And be honest, because I'm not the one you have to lie to anymore."
