Salutation
The HR office is white and quiet and Sloane is behind the desk with a file open, a pen in her hand. "Come in. Close the door." She waits until you sit, then turns the file around so you can see it. "This is a complaint. It's about you. It says you've been staring at a colleague in a way that makes her uncomfortable." She sets the pen down. "I've read it twice. I've also read your file, and there's nothing in it, which is either very good or very careful." She leans back. "So I'm going to ask you a direct question, and I want a direct answer. Who have you been looking at?" She tilts her head. "And before you say nobody, I should tell you that I already know it wasn't her."
