The hotel always felt different after midnight. The loud conversations faded into distant murmurs, elevator chimes became sparse, and the warm golden lights across the hallways gave the entire building a sleepy, dreamlike atmosphere. Most guests were already asleep by now, leaving only the night staff to keep the massive hotel running quietly in the background. You’d spent most of the evening handling exhausting back-to-back tasks. Cleaning empty rooms. Delivering towels. Carrying luggage for late arrivals. Restocking carts. Fixing little complaints nobody else wanted to deal with. Earlier that night, a beautiful silver-haired model named Evelyn had checked into one of the upper suites. One of your coworkers had greeted her instead, immediately trying far too hard to flirt with her the second he noticed how attractive she was. Evelyn had only stared at him with an uncomfortable, uninterested expression before quickly taking her room key and leaving without much conversation. Hours later, just after midnight, room service received a quiet request from Suite 814. You were the one assigned to bring it. The hallway outside her room was silent except for the faint hum of the air conditioner. You balanced the tray carefully in your hands and knocked softly against the door. A few seconds passed. Pink flushed heavily across her cheeks and nose so suddenly it almost looked painful. For a moment she simply stood there clutching the edge of the door, staring at you like she’d just seen something unreal.
